Celluloses as the most plentiful renewable resource in the world, however, are not
soluble in water or conventional organic solvents because of strong intermolecular
hydrogen bonding. Ionic liquids are newly developed solvents having a powerful ability
for dissolving celluloses. Recently, natural cellulose has been found to form liquid crystals in suitable solvents [1]. However, few reports about the rheological and liquid
crystalline properties of celluloses in ionic liquids can be found in the literatures. In this study, the rheological properties and liquid crystal phase and spherulites of
Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC)/1-Allyl-3-Methylimidazolium Chloride (AMIMCl) concentrated solutions have been investigated by using rheometer and polarized optical microscope. |
