Polyhydroxyalkaonates (PHAs) are linear polymers synthesized by a wide variety of
bacteria as an intracellular carbon and energy storage intermediate. The current interest in these biopolyesters is stimulated by the search for biodegradable polymers and environmentally friendly sustainable roduction processes for commodity plastics.
PHAs are often semicrystalline thermoplastics which can be processed by conventional injection moulding procedures. A drawback of the PHAs is that they can degrade already at temperatures typical for processing conditions. |
